Several members of the WRPS joined a large contingent from the Cam Catchment on the march in London yesterday. There were thousands present with representatives from across the UK campaigning for clean water. In Parliament Square numerous speakers spoke of the challenge to reverse the catastrophe that has overtaken the water industry and our water environment.

Key issues were reform of the regulator OFWAT, proper use of existing legislation to enforce the laws on illegal activities of the water industry and how to sort out a failed privatisation.

Encouragingly this government has recently passed legislation to constrain water companies in several ways. They have also set up a Water Commission

under Sir John Cunliffe to review the whole water industry and report by Summer 2025.

Also we are encouraged to see OFWAT has recently written an enforcement letter to Cambridge Water Compay asking them to revise their Water Resource Management Plan 2024 (WRMP24). They have failed to achieve multiple targets in WRMP19 - which they have used as their baseline for WRMP24!
