March 2021 - WET - Views of the same river section - DRY October 2025

Since June a section of the river has sadly remained dried out following the "Prolonged Dry Period" summer. Cambridge Water Company's drought plan only reached Level 1 - "Raising Awareness" and there was no hosepipe ban.

Despite this the augmentation managed to keep approximately 3km of the upstream river (from the Temple to Hawk Mill) in water. We have documented this with a film made in one day highlighting the issues. (Click Here)

The film shows (rather disturbingly) how important the Teversham Sewage works is for keeping the downstream Bottisham Lode section in water during these dry periods. We are continuing to liaise with the EA regarding improving the augmentation and monitoring. Our cameras worked well until the river ran dry - when the reeds and weeds grew up obscuring the views of the gauging boards. We have a plan to address this.

Another film "Testing the Waters" is now available showing our volunteers testing the water quality during June. This was part of the "Rivers of Film" Festival and is also on our video page (Click Here)
