2024 River Walk May 19th

This year our river walk runs from Hawk Mill Farm to Herrings House on the Wilbraham Road between Great Wilbraham and Fulbourn.

The walk will be on Sunday 19th May 2024 starting at 2 pm, all are welcome. It is a guided circular walk and will run from Hawk Mill Farm, Little Wilbraham along the public foot path onto Great Wilbraham common land to explore the route of the Wilbraham River holt ,now a dried but obvious river bed. We will cross the fields to the Coles Road gauging station and then to Herrings House where we will have tea. There will be the option to explore the Parish Acre and the course of the Great Wilbraham River bed.We will return along the New Cut to David Whites pond and then back to Hawk Mill Farm. There will be parking available at the Farm.Tea is by kind permission of Mrs Mel Fraser and Mr and Mrs Robson

If you would like to join us an email to bex@drcr.info to confirm rough numbers would be helpful.

The complete walk is about 5.9 kms long, it is fairly flat but the ground is uneven (not suitable for baby buggies) and the path narrow. The route is not easily accessible by car so if you feel it’s too far be aware it’s quite difficult to be rescued! As the walk is circular it is possible to walk approx. 3Kms from Hawk Mill Farm to Herrings House or back from there .It will be possible to park in the layby by the Coles Road Gauging station and leave or pick up the walk from this point.

There may also be cattle in one of the fields we cross so dogs are welcome but on leads please.

There are often birds to be spotted so binoculars can be handy. It can be hot and there is not much shade and as you would expect the path runs alongside water. There may also be cattle in one of the fields we cross so dogs are welcome but on leads please.

Please come prepared We would recommend stout shoes and trousers, hats and fluids and possibly an umbrella this year.

Hoping to see you for what is a most enjoyable few hours.
